REMOTE SENSING

This is the operation of making measurements on an object by means of instrumentation far removed from it. Taking a picture with a telephoto lens and measuring automobile speed by Radar are true examples of remote sensing. Conducting pollution measurements along the fence-line of a property is not a true case of remote sensing. Although the pollution source may be remote from the measurement area, fence-line measurements are actually a case of in-situ sensing.
